Dr Wassing graduated with a PhD from De Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, is a researcher at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research and has an honorary affiliation with the Central Clinical School, The University of Sydney. He has recently obtained funding from the NHMRC for a five-year research program on the impact of sleep disturbances on the risk for the development of affective disorders. This program aims to uncover the brain mechanisms underlying the regulation of emotional memories. His expertise includes neuroimaging methods such as EEG and MRI, neuromodulatory methods including TMS and olfactory-based conditioning, and machine learning and statistical modelling.

Dr Wassing maintains active participation in the activities of the Australasian Sleep Association, the European Sleep Research Society, and chairs the weekly seminar meetings at the Woolcock.
