Respiratory Disease
An internationally recognised leader driving cross-disciplinary innovation at the intersection of pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences

Dr Kamal Dua is a leading pharmaceutical scientist with multidisciplinary expertise spanning drug delivery, biomedical sciences and immunology & microbiology. His strong foundation in Pharmaceutical Technology and Immunology enables him to confidently lead cross-disciplinary research in novel pharmaceutical formulations and biological sciences.

Dr Dua has been recognised among Australia’s Top 250 Researchers (2024, 2025) and currently holds the #1 national ranking in both Toxicology and Pharmacology & Pharmacy. He has secured over AU$2.9 million in competitive research funding and authored more than 400 peer-reviewed publications, reflecting the high quality, sustained impact, and international relevance of his work.

A prominent figure in lung cancer research, Dr Dua has published landmark studies mapping two decades of global trends in nanotherapy [PMIDs: 39798040, 39384612]. His research has also made significant contributions to the management of chronic inflammatory diseases, particularly airway conditions. By developing innovative nano-carriers for delivering potential therapeutic molecules, including various phytoconstituents and Indigenous bush medicines, his work bridges the gap between laboratory discovery and clinical application. He focuses on identifying key molecular targets involved in disease pathophysiology and formulating them into effective, translatable drug delivery systems.

At the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, Dr Dua plays a key leadership role, supporting early-career researchers’ (ECRs) development and promoting collaboration across industry, academia and government. His translational research continues to enhance biomedical and advance drug delivery research capacity in lung diseases and drive innovation across the state’s healthcare landscape.
